Light Setup & Schedule
Light setup gets overcomplicated for no reason. Set the schedule once, buy the right amount of light for your tank size, and leave it alone.
The Schedule
6 hrs
Light, per day
If you need more growth, increase gradually by +30 minutes per week:
| Week | Light |
|---|---|
| Week 1 | 6h |
| Week 2 | 6.5h |
| Week 3 | 7h |
Light
4pm – 10pm Frequency
7 days a week
4pm – 10pm Frequency
7 days a week
Best Practices for Lights
- Buy more powerful lights than you need, then run them dimmer. This gives you better control and extends the lifespan of your lights.
- Avoid relying on light apps for scheduling — most are unintuitive and prone to errors.
- Use a smart plug for timing. Set your desired color in the app, leave the light "always on," and control on/off with a smart plug for a simpler, more reliable setup.
- Skip the sunrise/sunset ramp features. Gradual brightness changes have minimal real impact and add unnecessary complexity.
How Many Lights Do You Need?
| 45–90cm tanks | 1 light |
| 120cm+ tanks | 2 lights |
- A single light can work on a 90cm tank if it's low-tech or low-demand
- Two lights are preferred on 90cm if you're running higher light or more demanding plants
