Live Baby Brine Shrimp Setup

Few things garner compliments as much as healthy, vibrant, active fish. Live food isn't just one of the experiences to have with your tank — it's the most consistent way to the best color, breeding, and behavior.

No other live food is 60% protein and this easy to take care of. Set it up once, harvest every morning.

Baby Brine Shrimp Eggs

The Recipe

2L
Tap water — no dechlorinator. Chlorine helps break down egg casings.
2 tbsp
Aquarium salt — about 1 tbsp per liter.
¼–1 tsp
Brine shrimp eggs — scale up to 1–2 tbsp daily for 20+ tanks.

Hatching Process

    Fill with tap water and turn on the bubbler.

    Add salt.
  3. 3
    Add eggs.

Timing depends on temperature

Average wait time is 36 hours at standard room temperature.

How to Harvest the Brine Shrimp

    Turn off the air pump.
  2. 2
    Wait 5–10 minutes for the eggshells to float — live nauplii will be floating in the water column.
  3. 3
    Drain the hatchery through a brine shrimp net — it lets the salt water out but keeps the live shrimp in.
  4. 4
    Stop about 2cm before the floating eggshells at the top get pulled into the drain.
  5. 5
    Feed using a syringe or turkey baster into your tanks.
